Adjoining the spectacular Sierra de Tramuntana UNESCO World Heritage site in Mallorca, the Projecte Equilibri farm has 110 hectares under cultivation (almond, carob, olive) and 65 hectares of natural forest
Together, we are developing a flagship project.
The rich biodiversity and strong agricultural and beekeeping heritage have been strongly affected by imports, low market prices, high costs of labour, and the use of machinery instead of manual labour has damaged pollinator habitats.
Our world-changing goal is to create a model in which the producer takes responsibility for creating a fairer, healthier and more productive relationship with the ecosystem that supports a working farm.
We aim to demonstrate the economic value of a transition to Precision Apiculture that promotes the local bioeconomy and creates a more sustainable local food system.
The World Bee Project and Projecte Equilibri are collaborating on an innovative bee research and education programme that will demonstrate and promote diversified agricultural landscapes and enhanced pollination for sustainable food production and increased nutritional value.
The goal of this ambitious project is agricultural and educational but as members of the World Hive Network©, Projecte Equilbri will also be contributing real-time data to the World Hive Network Database thus making a significant contribution to the scientific study of bees and their ecosystems in Mallorca.
We aim to launch a series of workshops to give both locals and the global community the chance to see how combining cutting-edge technology with best-practice ecological farming can translate into sustainable farming that models best practice land management.
